Consulting Rates
We want to make it easy to engage our consulting services. Simply put, we would rather quickly start working with you than spend a lot of time talking about the terms of working with you.
Here are two alternatives to establishing rates that we think can make this easy:
1) If there is a rate you have had for similar work with other consultants, we are probably flexible to accept this.
2) We think it’s fair to think of what we do as similar in value to an experienced manager within your company but without the cost of benefits, bonus or commitment to long term employment. So if our rates are in line with what you pay your senior managers (1 and sometimes 2 levels below VP depending on the work sponsor) then this should be an acceptable financial starting point. If you can propose that rate, we can probably agree to it.
In establishing ourselves with a new customer our rates are not the most important thing. We want a successful engagement with a satisfied customer so that discussion of any future rates will be an easy exercise.
Travel & Expenses
We will work with reasonable expense guidelines that you have established for consultants. Out of town travel includes reasonable reimbursement for travel, lodging and meals per the client expense policy guidelines.
Travel Work Days
For out of town travel, we follow a typical consulting norm of flying out on Monday mornings and back on Thursday evenings with the objective of starting work at the client as early as possible on Monday. We fly home on Thursday evenings and work out of a home or local office on Fridays. When we have “out of town” travel we also prefer a minimum 9 hour work day to maximize the time with the client and focus on the work. While each engagement may differ in what is agreed this is our going in default expectation.
